Ricky Ponting Leaves Delhi Capitals After 7 Years as Head Coach

Ricky Ponting, the legendary Australian cricketer and World Cup-winning captain, has ended his seven-year tenure as head coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The announcement was made ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction.

Under Ponting’s guidance, DC reached the playoffs three times, including a historic first-time appearance in the finals in 2020, where they lost to the Mumbai Indians. However, the team has not progressed to the final four stages in the last three years, finishing sixth this year.

The franchise expressed their gratitude on social media, highlighting Ponting’s dedication and the values he instilled in the team. They noted his commitment to care, attitude, and effort, which helped shape the players both as athletes and as individuals.

The remaining DC coaching staff includes director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Pravin Amre, bowling coach James Hopes, and fielding coach Biju George.
