Richard Branson to Co-Pilot World’s First Crewed Hydrogen Space Balloon

Richard Branson, the billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Virgin Galactic, is set to embark on a new adventure by co-piloting the world’s first crewed hydrogen space balloon, ‘Spaceship Neptune’. This innovative flight is organized by Space Perspective, a space tourism company based in Florida. The journey will take eight passengers 20 miles into Earth’s stratosphere, offering breathtaking views and a unique space travel experience.

Spaceship Neptune: A New Era in Space Travel

Spaceship Neptune is designed to be the safest and most accessible carbon-neutral human spaceflight. It features the largest spaceflight capsule, complete with Wi-Fi, cocktails, fine dining, plush seating, luxury amenities, and a proper restroom. The flight, lasting approximately six hours, will ascend for two hours, float at 100,000 ft for two hours, and gently descend over two hours before splashing down in the ocean.

Experience the Wonders of Space

Passengers will enjoy panoramic views of up to 450 miles in all directions through nearly 360-degree windows. They will witness the night sky, Earth’s curvature, and a sunrise over the horizon. Upon splashdown, passengers will be retrieved by Space Perspective and returned to land.

Branson’s Ballooning Legacy

Branson’s passion for ballooning is well-known. In 1987, he and Per Lindstrand were the first to cross the Atlantic in a hot air balloon. He also crossed the Pacific in 1991 and became the first billionaire to fly his own spacecraft to the edge of space in 2021. Branson expressed his excitement for this new venture, calling it the ultimate ballooning adventure.

Future of Space Tourism

With over 1,800 reservations already made, the first commercial flights are planned for 2025, priced at USD 125,000 per person. Branson will be joined by Space Perspective’s founders, Taber MacCallum and Jane Poynter, on this groundbreaking journey.
