RFYS Kicks Off U-19 Girls’ Football Tournament in Kashmir
The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) has launched the inaugural U-19 school girls’ football tournament in Kashmir at Green Valley Education Institute. This exciting event aims to open new opportunities for young female footballers in one of India’s most beautiful regions.
Event Details
The tournament will feature eight teams competing in 15 games over six days. This initiative is part of RFYS’s broader mission to revolutionize football in Kashmir, especially focusing on U-19 girls’ teams.
Past Achievements
In the inaugural leg of the RFYS 2023-24 Kashmir season, SRM Welkin HR Secondary School won in the U-15 category, while the University of Kashmir clinched the U-21 trophy.
Goals and Vision
According to Afshan Ashiq, a goalkeeper in Jammu and Kashmir’s women’s football team, RFYS aims to provide crucial game time, youth coach development, and grants to build a strong footballing future for young girls. Since its launch in 2016, RFYS has impacted nearly nine million students across India.
The addition of the Kashmir leg aims to harness the region’s passion for football and provide talented players with opportunities to excel and potentially join India’s professional football leagues.
