According to Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, the shooting happened at the Mediation Centre of the District Court. Harpreet Singh was taken to the hospital but unfortunately died there. The police have recovered a .32 bore pistol, four fired bullets, and three unused bullets from Malvinder Singh.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called to investigate the scene. Police are also speaking to eyewitnesses and checking how Malvinder Singh entered the court with the weapon. This was the fourth meeting between the two families regarding the divorce proceedings.
