Rescue Operations in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand
3,000 Rescued, 1,000 Still Stranded
In Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, heavy rains have caused significant damage to the route leading to Kedarnath Dham. As a result, many people were stranded. According to Disaster Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, 3,000 people have been successfully rescued so far, but around 1,000 individuals are still waiting to be rescued in Kedarnath.
The weather has improved across Uttarakhand, and an Orange alert has been issued for Uttarkashi, indicating some rain. Major routes are open, except for the route between Kedarnath and Gaurikund. Yesterday, 2,300 people were moved from Gaurikund to Sonprayag, and 700 were airlifted.
Secretary Suman advised people to avoid venturing out in the rain. He assured that the stranded individuals in Kedarnath are safe, with adequate shelter and food supplies for 15 days. Four helicopters, including those from the Indian Air Force, are involved in the rescue operations.
SDRF Commandant Manikant Mishra mentioned that drones are being used to enhance the rescue efforts. Teams have been directed to safely rescue people on the Sonprayag-Gaurikund route. Additional teams from August Muni and Ratuda have been called in to intensify the operations. Four SDRF teams at the helipads of Licholi and Kedarnath are ensuring the safety of the stranded individuals.
