Red-House Indie Film Festival: A Celebration of Independent Filmmaking

The Red House is hosting the second edition of the Red-House Indie Film Festival (RIFF) in New Delhi, India, from November 15-17. This three-day event highlights independent films from both emerging and established filmmakers across the country.

Featured Documentary: ‘Un-titled’

On November 16, the festival will feature a documentary titled ‘Un-titled,’ directed by Syed Ahmad Rufai. Filmed in McLeod Ganj, the documentary delves into the displacement of Tibetans and their establishment of a government-in-exile in India. It emphasizes their resilience and resistance through poetry, amidst the ongoing struggle for autonomy.

Tibet’s Struggle for Autonomy

Since China’s invasion of Tibet in 1950, the region has undergone significant changes. Tibetan leaders, including the Dalai Lama, have called for greater autonomy, citing cultural erosion and human rights concerns.

Sikyong Penpa Tsering’s Address

On November 8, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the political leader of the Central Tibetan Administration, urged Tibetans in exile to deepen their understanding of Tibet’s history. During his visit to the Kalimpong Tibetan settlement, he emphasized the importance of recognizing Tibet’s geopolitical significance and preserving Tibetan identity.

Sikyong visited key Tibetan institutions and addressed approximately 200 Tibetan residents, honoring past sacrifices and acknowledging the roles of the Dalai Lama and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in establishing Tibetan settlements in India.
