RCB Retains Key Players for WPL 2025
Reema Malhotra’s Insights on RCB’s Retention Choices
Former Indian cricketer Reema Malhotra shared her thoughts on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retention list for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. She noted that the retention of international stars Sophie Devine and Danni Wyatt was expected, as they bring stability and experience to the team.
RCB’s Retention List
RCB has retained 14 players, including six international stars, ahead of the WPL 2025 auction. Key players like captain Smriti Mandhana, star batter Ellyse Perry, and wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh are among the retained players of the championship-winning team.
Reema Malhotra’s Comments
Speaking on JioCinema, Reema Malhotra said, “This was anticipated–there is nothing surprising here. Anneke Bosch was an injury replacement last season, so keeping her makes sense. Sophie Devine brings stability, and Danni Wyatt’s addition adds experience at the top.”
She also mentioned that players like Indrani Roy, Shubha Satheesh, Shraddha Pokharkar, and Simran Shaikh did not make a significant impact in the WPL despite getting opportunities. However, she expressed her satisfaction with Ekta Bisht’s retention, citing her experience as valuable for the future.
Performance and Future Prospects
Last season, Sophie Devine scored 136 runs in 10 matches with an average of 15.11, and her best score was 32. Danni Wyatt will join RCB for the upcoming WPL 2025 season after a successful trade from UP Warriorz. RCB emerged as the champions of the WPL season this year, defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the final.
