Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 22: Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin had a memorable match against Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, leading India to a 280-run victory. Ashwin scored a brilliant 113 runs and took six wickets in the second innings, earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

After the match, Ashwin had a touching moment with his wife Prithi and daughters. He offered the ball with which he took his five-wicket haul as a gift for International Daughters’ Day, but his daughter humorously refused. Ashwin expressed his joy playing in Chennai, saying, “Every time I come here, I feel special. There is some energy in this place that keeps me going.”

Ashwin’s performance included his fourth instance of scoring a century and taking a five-wicket haul in a Test match, a feat only surpassed by England’s Ian Botham. He also tied with Shane Warne for the second-most five-wicket hauls in Test history, with 37, and became the second Indian bowler to reach 750 international wickets, after Anil Kumble.

In the match, India initially struggled but recovered thanks to a 199-run partnership between Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Bangladesh, despite some resistance, were bowled out for 149 in their first innings and 228 in their second, with Ashwin and Jadeja taking crucial wickets.

India’s top order collapsed early in both innings, but significant contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill helped set challenging targets for Bangladesh. Ashwin’s all-round performance was pivotal in securing the victory for India.
