Ravichandran Ashwin Shines with Century in Chennai Test Against Bangladesh

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 19: Star Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin scored his sixth Test century during the first Test against Bangladesh. At the end of day one, Ashwin was unbeaten with 102 runs off 112 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes.

Speaking about his performance, Ashwin said, “On a surface like this, it’s better to go hard like Rishabh does. It’s an old-school Chennai surface with bounce and carry… Love playing when there is bounce and carry, enjoyed myself today. Jadeja was of real help, there was a point where I was sweating and tiring but Jaddu helped me through the phase. He’s been solid and one of our best batters. He told me we don’t have to convert twos into threes, which was useful for me.”

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl, reducing India to 34/3. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant formed a 62-run partnership, but India was struggling at 144/6. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja then formed an unbeaten 195-run partnership, bringing India to 339/6 at stumps.

Hasan Mahmud was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, taking 4 wickets for 58 runs, including the dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.
