Ravichandran Ashwin Says Rohit Sharma Will Stay with Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025

New Delhi, India – August 29: Star Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians. Ashwin believes that Rohit will continue playing for the franchise in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Last year, Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit as the captain of Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in IPL history. This decision was met with some criticism from fans. Ashwin commented on his YouTube channel, saying, “Even if you think like Rohit, it’s not wrong at all. I don’t want any headache. I have been a captain for India. I have captained Mumbai many times. Even if I am not a captain, I am going to Mumbai happily. If I play for Mumbai, it’s super. I am sure most players are like that. After a stage, money doesn’t matter for some of those players. That’s the thing.”

Rohit had a decent IPL 2024 season, scoring 417 runs at an average of 32.07 and a strike rate of 150. He scored a century and a fifty, with his best score being 105*.

Rohit has been a legend for Mumbai Indians since joining the team in 2011. He has played 199 IPL matches for the franchise, scoring 5,084 runs at an average of 29.39 and a strike rate of 129.86. He has one century and 34 fifties, with his highest score being 109*.

After taking over the captaincy from Ricky Ponting in 2013, Rohit led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles in 10 years (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) and reached the playoffs twice. Hardik Pandya replaced him as captain last year after moving from Gujarat Titans, where he had a successful stint, including a title-winning debut season in 2022.

Rohit has also won two Champions League T20 titles with Mumbai Indians in 2011 and 2013, the latter as captain. He is the all-time highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians, with 5,357 runs in 208 matches at an average of 29.59 and a strike rate of almost 130, including one century and 35 fifties.

Before joining Mumbai Indians, Rohit played for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2010. He scored 1,170 runs in 45 matches for the team, with an average of 30.79 and a strike rate of over 131, including eight fifties. He won the IPL 2009 season with Deccan Chargers, making him a six-time IPL champion.

Overall, Rohit is the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history, with 6,254 runs in 244 matches at an average of 29.63 and a strike rate of 130.15. He has one century and 42 fifties, with his highest score being 109*.
