Ravichandran Ashwin Prepares for Milestones in India vs Bangladesh Test Series in Chennai

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 14: As Team India gears up to face Bangladesh in the first Test match in Chennai, all eyes are on local star and spin expert Ravichandran Ashwin. The two-match series will start on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with the second game beginning on September 27 in Kanpur.

In his first Test series as head coach, Gautam Gambhir aims to secure a series win. Ashwin has an impressive record at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, having taken 30 wickets in four Tests at an average of 23.60, including four five-wicket hauls and a ten-wicket haul. With the bat, he has scored 229 runs in six innings at an average of 38.16, with a century and a half-century, his best score being 106.

Some of Ashwin’s best performances at this venue include a match-winning seven-wicket haul against Australia in 2013 and a stellar all-round performance against England in 2021, where he scored a century and took eight wickets, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Ashwin is also close to reaching a milestone of 750 international wickets, currently standing at 744 wickets in 281 matches. He needs just six more wickets to reach this milestone and 21 more to surpass legends like Courtney Walsh, Chaminda Vaas, and Tim Southee to enter the top 10 wicket-takers in international cricket.

In Test cricket alone, Ashwin has 516 wickets and is looking to surpass Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, who has 530 wickets, to become the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.

For Rohit Sharma’s team, this series against Bangladesh will be followed by New Zealand’s tour of India for three Tests starting from October 16, and then the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia from November 22.

India’s Squad for the 1st Test against Bangladesh:
