New Delhi [India], June 29: India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has praised Suryakumar Yadav for his outstanding performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The final match will see India face South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.

Suryakumar Yadav is currently the ninth highest run-scorer in the tournament, with 196 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 137.06. Ashwin, speaking on his YouTube channel, called Suryakumar one of the finest T20 batters in the world and commended his intent in the number four batting position.

“Suryakumar Yadav is one of the finest T20 batters in the world. He is playing extraordinarily well. But, as usual, our people have been saying about knockout performances and big teams. But, he has put it to bed. The high-quality player that he is, he has shown it with his intent in No. 4,” Ashwin said.

Ashwin also highlighted the contributions of head coach Rahul Dravid, noting his hard work and balanced approach over the past 2-3 years. “I know what Rahul Dravid has been doing with this team for the past 2-3 years. I know how balanced he has been. I know how hard he has worked to change this approach. I know what he has given each of his players. Even when he is just sitting at home, he has been planning how to do this and that,” he added.

India aims to end their ICC trophy drought since the 2013 Champions Trophy and win their first T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2007. Both India and South Africa have remained unbeaten in the 2024 T20 World Cup, showcasing impressive performances throughout the tournament.

India, led by Rohit Sharma, has dominated their opponents, including strong teams like Australia, Pakistan, and England. In contrast, South Africa has had a more challenging path, narrowly escaping defeat in several matches, including close games against Bangladesh, Nepal, and the West Indies.
