St John’s [Antigua], June 22: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Team India for their strong batting intent during their Super Eights T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh on Saturday. Despite playing on a batting-friendly surface in Antigua, the Indian batters focused on maintaining a high and consistent run rate.

On social media, Ashwin wrote, “We are not used to an approach where batsmen throw it away after making 30’s 20’s, but it is about time we embrace an approach like this, especially while batting first. Top intent from all the Indian batters so far #INDvBAN #T20WorldCup.”

Rishabh Pant, India’s top run-scorer in the tournament, has scored 152 runs in five games with an average of 38.00 and a strike rate of 135.71, with his highest score being 42. Other notable performances include Suryakumar Yadav (118 runs in five matches), Hardik Pandya (89 runs in three matches), and skipper Rohit Sharma (99 runs in five matches).

In the match, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first. Indian openers Rohit Sharma (23 runs) and Virat Kohli (37 runs) had an aggressive start with a 39-run partnership. Despite early wickets, contributions from Rishabh Pant (36 runs), Shivam Dube (34 runs), and Hardik Pandya (50* runs) helped India reach 196/5 in 20 overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rashid Hossain were the top bowlers for Bangladesh.

India needs to defend 197 runs to secure a spot in the semifinals. They are currently second in Group 1 of the Super Eights, while Bangladesh is at the bottom, making this a crucial game for both teams.
