Ravichandran Ashwin Becomes Top Wicket-Taker in Asia for India in Tests

Star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a remarkable milestone on Friday by becoming the first Indian to take the most wickets in Asia in Test cricket. This achievement came on the first day of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur when Ashwin dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31 runs in the 29th over.

With this wicket, Ashwin now has 420 wickets in Asia, surpassing Anil Kumble’s 419. Harbhajan Singh holds the third place with 300 wickets in Asia. Ashwin made his Test debut in 2011 against West Indies and has since played 101 Test matches, taking 522 wickets in 191 innings.

In the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh, India leads 1-0 after a 280-run victory in Chennai. In the Kanpur Test, India won the toss and chose to bowl. Bangladesh’s openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam were quickly dismissed by Indian pacer Akash Deep. Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto then steadied the innings, taking Bangladesh to 74/2 by the end of the first session.

Rain interrupted the second session, and only 35 overs were played on Friday. Ashwin was the lone wicket-taker in the second session, removing the Bangladesh skipper. At stumps, Bangladesh stood at 107/3 with Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten at the crease.
