Ravi Raja Joins BJP, Criticizes Congress for Favoritism in Mumbai
Ravi Raja, the newly appointed Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mumbai, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the Congress party, which he recently left. Raja, who has been active in the Sion Koliwada constituency for 25 years, expressed frustration that a newcomer received a ticket over him, suggesting favoritism within the party.
Raja stated, “I have fought from the Sion Koliwada constituency five times before, the ward beside it is Dharavi. Now you see that the person who has been there for 25 years, that person has not gotten a ticket and the person who has been just a member for the past 4 months that person has gotten a ticket, esa pata chalta hai ki bedh bhav hai (it shows that there is favouritism).” He believes that the Congress does not award tickets based on merit, leading to rebellion among members.
Raja plans to support the Mahayuti candidate in the upcoming Mumbai elections, stating, “I don’t have any expectations, and today they saw my experience and Ashish Shelar announced me as the Vice President of the BJP Mumbai unit, and I will campaign for the Mahayuti candidate all over Mumbai’s constituencies and work to make them win.”
He also criticized the ongoing ‘parivarvaad’ or nepotism within the Congress, highlighting how favoritism has been evident in ticket distribution. Earlier, Raja resigned from Congress, citing a lack of respect for his 44 years of service. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
