Ravi Kishan Takes Oath as MP in 18th Lok Sabha
New Delhi [India], June 25: Actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan took oath as a Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur constituency on the second day of the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha. After taking the oath, he chanted, ‘Baba Gorakhnath Maharaj ki jai’, ‘Har Har Mahadev’, and ‘Jai Bhojpuri’, which was echoed by other MPs. He then shook hands with MP Faggan Singh Kulaste, who was presiding over the Lower House.
Ravi Kishan thanked the BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and expressed his gratitude to the people of Gorakhpur. He defeated Samajwadi Party’s Kajal Nishad by a margin of 103,526 votes. Kishan said, ‘It feels great. I want to thank PM Modi, CM Yogi, and the people of Gorakhpur from the bottom of my heart.’
He acknowledged the trust placed in him by the Bhojpuri community and pledged to serve the people. He also expressed confidence in the Speaker’s victory due to their strong numbers.
On Monday, Ravi Kishan rejected the Opposition’s accusations, stating that Prime Minister Modi has always respected the Constitution. He urged the Opposition MPs to act responsibly in Parliament and avoid disruptive behavior like tearing bills or throwing papers. He emphasized the importance of constructive debate and hoped the Opposition would not obstruct bills beneficial to the country.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Ravi Kishan won against Samajwadi Party candidate Rambhual Nishad with a margin of 301,664 votes. The Congress and Samajwadi Party had a seat-sharing agreement in the state, with Congress contesting 17 seats and Samajwadi Party contesting 63 seats. In the recent elections, Samajwadi Party won 37 seats, Congress won six, and BJP secured 33 seats.
