Islamabad [Pakistan], July 15: Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs, has expressed strong disapproval of the recent Supreme Court decision regarding reserved seats for independent candidates. He stated that the ruling contradicts the Constitution’s clear instructions for independent candidates who wish to join political parties.

Speaking on Geo News’ programme Naya Pakistan, Sanaullah emphasized that the Constitution requires independent candidates to join political parties within three days of elections. He criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to extend this period to 15 days, arguing that it breaches Article 51 and relevant sections of the Constitution.

Sanaullah warned that this decision could lead to ‘horse-trading’ and stressed that only parliament has the authority to alter the Constitution. He also mentioned that the ruling benefits Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), allowing the party to return to parliament after being barred from the February 8 elections.

Regarding Imran Khan’s arrest on new charges, Sanaullah stated that releasing the former prime minister would cause political and economic instability. He accused the PTI of orchestrating riots and launching a campaign against defense institution heads.
