Maharashtra Elections: Ramesh Chennithala Criticizes Mahayuti Government

In New Delhi, Ramesh Chennithala, the AICC Maharashtra in-charge, accused the Mahayuti government of misleading the public with false promises. This statement came a day after the state elections were announced. Chennithala spoke to the media after a Congress screening committee meeting, which aimed to decide candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra polls.

Allegations Against Mahayuti

Chennithala criticized the Eknath Shinde-led NDA government, questioning how they made 200 decisions just before the elections. He claimed, “Mahayuti is giving fake promises to people, they were in power for a long time but until now they did not take any decisions.” He further alleged that the government is trying to mislead the people with promises they don’t intend to implement.

Vijay Wadettiwar’s Remarks

Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, also criticized the Mahayuti government. He alleged that wealth is being transferred to Gujarat, with 80% of contractors in Maharashtra being from Gujarat, which he claims is hurting the Marathi people.

Government’s Defense

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde defended his administration’s performance, stating, “Our two years of work and performance is the face of our alliance.” He presented a performance report card, emphasizing the government’s achievements over the past two years. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present at the press conference.

Upcoming Elections

The Maharashtra Assembly elections for 288 seats will be held on November 20, with vote counting on November 23. In the 2019 elections, the Congress and unified Shiv Sena won 154 seats as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. This time, the Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar’s NCP, and Congress are allied against the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, MVA won 30 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra.
