Ramdas Athawale’s Party to Contest in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana Elections
Union Minister and Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief Ramdas Athawale announced that his party will contest 16-17 seats in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls. He also extended support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the remaining seats.
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. This will be the first assembly poll since the abrogation of Article 370.
In Haryana, Athawale’s party plans to contest 10-12 seats and support the BJP on the rest. RPI (A)’s Haryana unit President Ravi Sonu Kundli mentioned the possibility of an alliance with the BJP, demanding 2 reserved seats, Mullana in Ambala and Nilokheri in Karnal. If no agreement is reached, they will field candidates on 8 to 10 seats and support BJP candidates on the remaining 80 seats.
Voting in Haryana will be held on October 5, with the last date for filing nominations being September 12. The counting of votes in both states will be on October 8.
