In 2021, Dang, a forest region in Gujarat, was declared a fully natural farming district under the ‘Aapnu Dang, Prakrutik Dang’ campaign. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to promote natural farming across India, aiming to include 1 crore farmers in these practices.

Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, Gujarat has seen a significant rise in natural farming. This shift has greatly impacted the lives of tribal youth involved in agriculture, including Rajubhai Budhabhai Sahre from Galkund village in Ahwa taluka.

Rajubhai Sahre, a 40-year-old farmer, has seen remarkable success with natural farming. After receiving training from the Horticulture Department, he adopted a scientific approach to horticulture. In 2021, he earned Rs 55,000 from planting bitter gourd on 2 hectares, making a profit of Rs 40,000. By 2023-24, he diversified his crops and earned Rs 4 lakh 40 thousand from chillies, bitter gourd, tomatoes, and broccoli using mulching and drip irrigation techniques. His income has increased by 700% in the last three years.

Rajubhai also experimented with strawberries, planting 7,000 plants last year and achieving a 100% profit. This year, he expanded to 25,000 strawberry plants. He and his brothers are involved in natural farming, and he expressed gratitude for the government’s support, including subsidies and training from the Horticulture Department.

The Gujarat government has actively supported and trained farmers to promote natural farming. From 2021 to 2023-24, Rs 1603 lakh in assistance has been allocated to support farmers involved in natural farming.
