Rajouri’s New High-Tech Polyhouses and Farmer Training Institute to Boost Agriculture

Rajouri Chief Agriculture Officer, Sohan Singh, announced on Monday that three high-tech polyhouses will be operational by the coming winter to benefit farmers. Additionally, a farmer training institute in Lamberi will be functional by December.

“We are providing goods, seeds, and chemicals to the farmers on subsidy. We are motivating farmers to experiment with new techniques and new varieties of seeds,” said Singh. He also mentioned that subsidies are being provided on agricultural implements.

Singh urged farmers to take advantage of these schemes and highlighted that the Lamberi training institute aims to become a model farm, offering training in mushroom cultivation, apiculture, and vegetable cultivation.

He referred to the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP), which Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha called “a game-changer for Jammu and Kashmir’s agriculture and allied sectors.”

Earlier in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated initiatives worth nearly Rs 5,000 crore to boost the agri-economy in Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to the Valley since the abrogation of Article 370.

Polyhouse farming involves growing crops in controlled, indoor environments made of plastic or metal frames with transparent walls and roofs, allowing farmers to control the climate and protect crops from pests and diseases.
