Rajnath Singh Urges Private Sector to Lead in India’s Defence Innovation
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in advancing India’s defence capabilities. Speaking at the DRDO Industry Workshop in Delhi, Singh highlighted the importance of innovation and adaptability in the face of modern challenges like drones, cyber warfare, and space defence.
Singh stated, “Technology’s impact on the defence sector is not limited to conventional warfare; it has given birth to unconventional warfare, including drones, cyber warfare, bio-weapons, and space defence.” He urged the private sector to take the lead, citing its ability to absorb rapid changes and foster new innovations.
The Government of India, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, is committed to making the defence sector more innovative and technology-driven. Singh noted that collaborative efforts from scientists, industrialists, academia, startups, MSMEs, and young entrepreneurs are vital for strengthening the sector.
He concluded by acknowledging the significant changes in warfare over the past decades and the need for continued research and development to enhance India’s defence strength.
