Rajnath Singh Talks About Pakistan’s IMF Request and J&K Elections

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke about Pakistan’s request for a $7 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and compared it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s financial support for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Singh made these remarks during a public rally in Jammu.

He criticized opposition parties in J&K, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), National Conference (NC), and Congress, for their promises to restore statehood without having power in the central government. Singh questioned if these parties were acting as proxies for Pakistan, referencing statements from Pakistan’s defence minister.

Singh assured that J&K’s statehood would be restored if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins in the region. He emphasized that PM Modi has also assured this restoration. Singh highlighted the high voter turnout of 61.13% in the first phase of J&K assembly elections, attributing it to the abrogation of Article 370.

Singh addressed three public meetings in Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu as part of his election campaign. The elections in J&K are being held in three phases, with the first phase on September 18, the second on September 25, and the third on October 1. Votes will be counted on October 8. This election is the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and is witnessing participation from several political parties and independents.
