Rajiv Bindal Criticizes Congress Over Constitution and Emergency

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

On June 25, Rajiv Bindal, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh, criticized the Congress party. He accused Congress of misleading citizens about the Constitution during the 2024 election campaign. Bindal claimed that Congress falsely suggested that the Constitution and reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs would be abolished if Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.

Bindal highlighted that from 1947 to 2014, Congress had amended the Constitution over 50 times, altering its basic spirit. He emphasized that the Constitution, created under Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, was meant to achieve India’s long-term goals, but Congress changed it for their own benefit.

Recalling the Emergency

Bindal recalled June 25, 1975, as a ‘black day’ when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed an internal emergency. He described how influential leaders were jailed, and freedoms of press, speech, and expression were abolished. Media persons who opposed were punished severely, and there was widespread fear and atrocities.

Bindal shared his personal experience of being jailed for four months during the emergency. He stated that the Congress’s actions during this period were worse than British rule. He also mentioned that those who opposed the emergency faced severe punishments, including beatings and imprisonment.

Congress’s Defeat Post-Emergency

Bindal noted that after the emergency, Congress was defeated in the elections, leading to the restoration of democracy. He urged Congress leaders to learn from the history of June 25 and stop instigating people in the name of the Constitution.

Protest Over Pro-tem Speaker Appointment

On the same day, Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, protested in the Parliament premises over the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as pro-tem speaker. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized the ruling party for neglecting key issues and the Dalit community.
