Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari Promises ‘Double-Engine Government’ for Upcoming By-Elections

As Rajasthan gears up for the by-elections in November, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Diya Kumari has assured that the state government will function as a ‘double-engine government,’ similar to successful models in other states.

“We got very little time after our government was formed in Rajasthan. We got around a month and a half and then the Model Code of Conduct was imposed. Now again, the bye-elections will come. Rajasthan has the BJP government and there is the NDA government in the centre. We will work together like a double-engine like the other states…,” Kumari said.

Earlier in the day, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa held a BJP meeting. Kumari highlighted the crucial role of party workers in shaping the party’s strategies. “Party workers are our support system. When feedback meetings like these happen, issues and suggestions come up, and we also seek the workers’ advice on what should be done next. A party is not a one-sided affair,” Kumari said.

Last week, the Election Commission announced the dates for by-elections to fill vacancies in 13 assembly constituencies across seven states. The elections will be held on July 10, with vote counting on July 13. The seats in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh are Rupauli, Vikravandi, Amarwara (ST), and Jalandhar West (SC) respectively. The by-elections for two seats in Uttarakhand – Badrinath and Manglaur, and three seats in Himachal Pradesh – Dehra, Nalagarh, and Hamirpur will also be conducted. The last date to file nominations is June 21, and candidates can withdraw their candidature by June 26. These seats were vacated due to resignations or deaths of the sitting MLAs.
