Rajasthan BJP Leader Kirodi Lal Meena Resigns After Election Loss
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 4: Rajasthan BJP leader Kirodi Lal Meena announced his resignation from the state cabinet and all posts on Thursday. Meena decided to step down to honor a promise made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections campaign, where he vowed to resign if the BJP lost any of the seven seats in eastern Rajasthan, including the Dausa Lok Sabha seat.
The 72-year-old leader, a two-time Lok Sabha MP, stated, “I announced that if I won’t be able to make my party win, I’ll resign, and I have done that. It is my moral duty that I should resign if my party doesn’t win.” Despite meeting the Chief Minister, who rejected his resignation, Meena sent it by post and plans to go to Delhi to discuss the matter with the party’s High Command.
In the recent parliamentary elections, the Congress-led NDA block won eight of the 25 seats in Rajasthan, while the BJP secured 14 seats. In the Dausa Lok Sabha seat, Congress’s Murari Lal Meena defeated BJP’s Kanhaiya Lal Meena by over 2.3 lakh votes.
State Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasara commented on Meena’s resignation, stating that some BJP leaders alleged that certain seats were sold to candidates without their knowledge, yet they were still responsible for winning those seats.
Meena, who held the agriculture and rural development portfolios under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Singh’s cabinet, announced his resignation while attending a religious event in the Mansarovar area of Jaipur.
