Rainfall Predicted in Odisha and Tamil Nadu: Updates from IMD Director Manorama Mohanty

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rainfall in Odisha from October 23 to 25 due to a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal. Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, explained that a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20, leading to a low-pressure area by October 22, which may cause rain in Odisha.

Regarding the possibility of a cyclone, Mohanty stated that it is too early to predict, but the IMD is monitoring the situation closely and will provide daily updates.

Meanwhile, a weather bulletin was issued for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. A depression over the Bay of Bengal moved across northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh, weakening into a low-pressure area. This system is expected to weaken further.

Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Thursday to Sunday, with heavy rain in isolated areas. The IMD has issued alerts for heavy rainfall in specific districts over the weekend.

Thunderstorms with lightning are anticipated in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Thursday to Monday. The weather forecast includes partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 25-34°C.
