New Delhi [India], July 1: Congress MP Rajeev Shukla defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the Hindu community, stating that Gandhi did not criticize Hindus but accused BJP members of not following true Hinduism. Shukla explained, ‘Rahul Gandhi said that BJP members call themselves Hindus but do not follow Hinduism. We follow what Lord Shiv said, but BJP members spread violence and hatred.’

Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanded an apology from Gandhi, arguing that his comments linked violence to Hinduism. Shah stated, ‘Connecting violence with any religion is wrong. He should apologize.’

Gandhi countered by saying that BJP and RSS do not represent the entire Hindu society. He also criticized the government’s actions, including the Agniveer scheme, and alleged that ministers were afraid to greet him in PM Modi’s presence. ‘Democracy and the Constitution have taught me to take the Leader of Opposition seriously,’ PM Modi responded.
