Rahul Gandhi’s First Speech as Opposition Leader Sparks Debate in Parliament
New Delhi, India – Rahul Gandhi, in his first speech as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, caused a stir with his remarks. Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy stated that Gandhi was expressing the current state of the country. Reddy emphasized the importance of accountability in democracy and criticized the scripted nature of the presidential speech.
Another Congress MP, Saleng A Sangma, supported Gandhi’s comments on the Manipur issue, asserting that Gandhi was speaking the truth and should not apologize. The speech led to heated exchanges, with BJP leaders accusing Gandhi of misleading the House and calling Hindus violent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah demanded an apology from Gandhi.
During the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, Gandhi criticized the BJP-led government over the Agniveer scheme, claiming it mistreats soldiers. He also highlighted the Congress party’s symbol, ‘Abhayamudra,’ as a gesture of fearlessness and non-violence, contrasting it with what he described as the BJP’s promotion of violence and hatred.
