On July 5, Rahul Gandhi visited the New Delhi Railway Station to meet with loco pilots. However, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, Deepak Kumar, mentioned that the crew members Gandhi spoke with were not from their lobby but seemed to be from outside. Gandhi was accompanied by 7-8 cameramen who filmed the visit.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi visited Hathras to meet the families affected by the July 2 stampede at a religious event, which claimed 121 lives. He also stopped in Aligarh to meet other victims’ families. Gandhi expressed his condolences and urged for maximum compensation for the affected families, criticizing the lack of police presence at the event.

Gandhi’s interaction with the loco pilots comes weeks after the Kanchenjunga Express train accident in West Bengal, which resulted in at least 10 deaths. The Congress party highlighted the importance of making the lives of loco pilots simpler and safer for overall railway safety.
