Rahul Gandhi Visits Flood Victims in Assam and Manipur

Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP, arrived in Assam on Monday to meet the flood-affected victims at a relief camp in Fulertal, Lakhipur. He landed at Kumbhigram airport in Silchar district and received a warm welcome from leaders of Assam and Manipur.

After visiting the relief camp in Fulertal, Rahul Gandhi proceeded to Manipur to visit relief camps at three different locations. He is also scheduled to meet the Manipur Governor in the evening.

The current flood situation in Assam is severe, with 58 people dead and 53,429 seeking refuge in shelter camps. A total of 23.9 lakh people have been affected across 3,535 villages, and 68,769 hectares of crop area have been submerged. Additionally, 114 animals, including 6 rhinos, have died in Kaziranga National Park.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) submitted a letter to Rahul Gandhi at Silchar airport, detailing the flood problems in the state. The letter emphasized the need for a pan-Northeast water management authority and immediate relief and rehabilitation for those affected. The APCC requested Rahul Gandhi to help secure adequate relief and compensation from the central government.
