Rahul Gandhi Urges Uttar Pradesh CM to Help Hathras Stampede Victims

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader, has written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He urged the Chief Minister to increase the compensation for the families affected by the Hathras stampede.

Gandhi visited Hathras on July 5 and met with the grieving families. He shared his letter on social media, expressing the need for collective support for the victims.

The stampede occurred on July 2 during a religious ‘Satsang’ event led by self-styled godman Suraj Pal Singh, also known as ‘Bhole Baba’, in Fulari village, Hathras. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of 121 lives.

Devprakash Madhukar, the main accused, was arrested and sent to 14 days of judicial custody. He had received permission for the event from the SDM for a gathering of 80,000 people. Two other accused, Ramprakash Shakya and Sanju Yadav, were also arrested.
