Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and a Congress MP, is set to speak at the Samvidhan Samman Sammelan in Ranchi on Saturday. This event comes as the Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

Election Details

The elections in Jharkhand will be held on November 13 and 20, while Maharashtra will have a single-phase election on November 20. Jharkhand has 81 assembly seats, and a total of 2.60 crore voters are eligible to vote, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters. The vote counting for both states will occur on November 23.

Congress Party Preparations

The Congress party has appointed BK Hariprasad, Gaurav Gogoi, and Mohan Markam as senior coordinators for the Jharkhand elections. BK Hariprasad is a Karnataka Legislative Council member, Gaurav Gogoi is the Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, and Mohan Markam is a former minister from Chhattisgarh.

Political Landscape in Jharkhand

Currently, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is the largest party in the state with 30 MLAs. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 25 MLAs, and Congress has 16. Congress and JMM have announced an alliance for the upcoming elections.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Remarks

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren criticized the BJP, accusing them of exploiting the state for 20 years. He emphasized his commitment to revitalizing Jharkhand since taking office in December 2019. Soren also noted that it has been 100 days since he resumed his role as Chief Minister after being out of jail.
