Rahul Gandhi Talks About AI and Jobs at University of Texas
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the University of Texas at Dallas and spoke about the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on jobs. He explained that while AI might take away some jobs, it will also create new ones. Gandhi emphasized the importance of positioning oneself properly to take advantage of AI opportunities.
He said, “Everytime you get a new technology, the argument is made that it’s going to take jobs away. When computers first came, it was feared that it’s going to take jobs away. When calculators first came, it was feared that it’s going to take jobs away. ATMs came, it was feared that it’s going to take jobs away. What happens is- it does take jobs away from some people and then transfers them to other people. I’m not of the view that jobs will vanish, but different types of jobs will be created and different types of systems will benefit more or less.”
Gandhi also mentioned that the IT industry in India might face challenges due to AI, but other sectors like scooter manufacturing may not be as affected. He recalled a speech by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who said that Indians don’t need computers, but computers ended up creating millions of jobs in India.
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday for his three-day US visit. He was welcomed at the airport by Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, and members of the Indian diaspora.
