Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, visited Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh to attend a court hearing in a defamation case. On his way back to Lucknow, he stopped at a cobbler’s shop and interacted with the cobbler, Ram Chet, and his family. Gandhi even tried his hand at mending a chappal, as seen in a video shared by the Congress party on social media.

Ram Chet, the cobbler, shared that Gandhi stitched a chappal and pasted a shoe at his shop. Ram Chet’s son, Raghuram, mentioned that he left the cobbling profession due to a lack of respect and now works as a laborer. Gandhi encouraged him, saying that no profession is big or small and that everyone should respect artisans.

Gandhi also met with loco pilots in Sultanpur, addressing their concerns about challenging working conditions. The Congress party stated that following Gandhi’s engagement, the Modi government began addressing the issues faced by loco pilots.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi appeared before the Sultanpur court regarding the defamation case filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018. The case involves alleged defamatory remarks made by Gandhi against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during an election rally in Bengaluru. The next hearing is scheduled for August 12, 2024. Gandhi denies the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated.
