Rahul Gandhi met Donald Lu, the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asia, ahead of Lu’s visit to India and Bangladesh. The US government regularly meets with members of government and opposition parties as part of their diplomatic engagements.

During his three-day visit, Rahul Gandhi engaged with the Indian diaspora, students, and US lawmakers. His trip began with meetings at the Rayburn House Office Building, hosted by Congressman Bradley James Sherman. Attendees included US Congress members Jonathan Jackson, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Barbara Lee, Shri Thanedar, Jesus G “Chuy” Garcia, Ilhan Omar, Hank Johnson, and Jan Schakowsky.

Criticism from BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Rahul Gandhi for meeting US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who has introduced anti-India resolutions. BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya accused the Congress party of working against the country, while BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla questioned why Rahul Gandhi engaged with anti-India elements.
