On Wednesday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met with a 12-member delegation of farmer leaders from different states at his office in the Parliament House Complex. The farmers shared various issues they have been facing.

After the meeting, Gandhi emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to providing a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in their manifesto. He stated, “In our manifesto, we have mentioned MSP with a legal guarantee. We have done the assessment and it can be implemented.”

Gandhi also mentioned that the Congress will rally support from other leaders within the INDIA alliance to press the government for this crucial measure to benefit farmers across the country.

Other notable attendees at the meeting included KC Venugopal, Raja Brar, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Dharamvir Gandhi, Dr. Amar Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda, and Jai Prakash.

Earlier, Gandhi alleged that farmer leaders invited by him were initially not allowed inside the Parliament Complex. They were only allowed in after Gandhi decided to meet them outside.

Meanwhile, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leaders announced plans to burn effigies of the Union government and launch a fresh protest to demand the legalization of the MSP guarantee. They will also stage a “long march” and a nationwide tractor rally on August 15, Independence Day.

Additional rallies are planned in Haryana’s Jind district on September 15 and in Pipli on September 22. Earlier in February, the Haryana government had set up barricades on the Ambala-New Delhi national highway after farmers announced a march to Delhi in support of various demands, including the legal guarantee of MSP for crops.
