Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi Over China Border Issue in Washington DC

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of the border standoff with China. Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington DC, Gandhi highlighted the occupation of Indian territory by Chinese troops, comparing it to how America would react if a neighbor occupied its land.

Gandhi pointed out that since May 2020, Indian and Chinese troops have been in a standoff in eastern Ladakh, with over 50,000 Indian soldiers stationed at forward posts. He stressed the need for a democratic production vision, contrasting it with China’s non-democratic approach.

Discussing his new role, Gandhi mentioned the ideological battle between the INDIA bloc and BJP-RSS, emphasizing a plural vision for India. He vowed to defend India’s institutions and support weaker sections of society.

Gandhi also spoke about the importance of manufacturing for employment and the opportunity for India and the US to regain their production capabilities. He advocated for supporting small and medium businesses and promoting a decentralized production system, unlike China’s large factories.

During his three-day visit to the US, Gandhi interacted with the Indian diaspora, students, faculty at universities, and US lawmakers. This is his first visit to the US after becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
