On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed concerns over India’s infrastructure following a stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus. He emphasized the need for “international-class infrastructure” and criticized the focus on inaugurations without proper maintenance. Gandhi highlighted past incidents, like the Balasore train accident, to stress the importance of public safety.

Dr. Sushil from Bandra Bhabha Hospital reported that ten people were injured in the stampede, with two seriously hurt and transferred to KEM Hospital. The incident occurred on Platform 1 as a crowd gathered for the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Dubey criticized the Mahayuti government and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for lacking accountability. Western Railway CPRO Vineet Abhishek explained that the incident happened as passengers tried to board a moving train. Despite efforts to ensure safety, the stampede occurred, prompting additional measures for the festive season.
