New Delhi, August 30: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi congratulated 17-year-old archer Sheetal Devi for setting a new record at the Paris Paralympics. He praised her courage and passion, stating that obstacles cannot limit talent. Rahul Gandhi shared his best wishes for her continued success.
Sheetal Devi showcased an amazing performance in the Women’s Individual Compound Archery qualification at the Paris Paralympics. She broke the previous World Record of 698 by scoring 703 points out of 720. Although Turkey’s Curuklu Girdi later set a new record of 704 points, Sheetal secured the second position in the overall ranking round.
In the men’s individual recurve archery, Harvinder Singh ranked ninth with 637 points. As the Paris Paralympics continue, India’s athletes remain focused and determined, with more events lined up.
Devendra Jhajharia, President of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), expressed confidence that the Indian contingent will win more than 25 medals. India aims to surpass its previous achievements, including 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics and 111 medals at the Para Asian Games. This year, India has sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, with 84 athletes across 12 sports, highlighting the country’s growing para-sports ecosystem.
