On a significant day in Srinagar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his views on the formation of the government in Jammu and Kashmir. He attended the oath-taking ceremony of Omar Abdullah, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre. The ceremony was conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Saxena.

Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were present at the event. In a statement, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Omar Abdullah and the people of Jammu and Kashmir but noted that the government formation felt incomplete without statehood. He emphasized the need to restore democracy fully in the region.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the party’s commitment to restoring statehood in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed happiness over the establishment of democracy and assured efforts to ensure statehood is restored. Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir also urged the Prime Minister to act swiftly on the people’s mandate for statehood restoration.

The National Conference-Congress alliance, part of the INDIA bloc, won the majority in the assembly polls, with JKNC securing 42 seats and Congress 6 seats. The BJP won 29 seats, while other parties and independents also gained representation. Omar Abdullah, who previously served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015, leads the new government with support from various parties.
