New Delhi, India – Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole announced that the ‘Save Constitution campaign’ led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and party national president Mallikarjun Kharge resulted in a significant victory for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Patole shared that the campaign’s impact was evident as the people of Maharashtra gave a big win to the MVA. A meeting was held to discuss this victory and plan for the upcoming elections in Maharashtra. The meeting included key leaders like Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, AICC in-charge for Maharashtra Ramesh Chennithala, and state leaders such as Vijay Wadettiwar, Prithviraj Chavan, and Vishwajeet Kadam. The meeting was led by Kharge at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Congress leaders discussed strategies for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, which are due later this year. The current Maharashtra Assembly’s term ends on November 26. After performing well in the Lok Sabha elections, the Maharashtra Congress is now preparing for the state elections and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

In the Lok Sabha elections, Congress emerged as the single-largest party in Maharashtra, winning 13 out of the 17 seats it contested. The MVA, which includes the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP), secured 30 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Some leaders in the Mumbai Congress unit are calling for changes in the leadership structure to ensure victory in the upcoming elections. Currently, the Mumbai Congress is led by Varsha Gaikwad, who was recently elected to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North East. A senior Mumbai Congress leader mentioned that they have collectively written a letter to the party’s high command, requesting necessary amendments to the party structure.

The letter, signed by former MRCC presidents and other leaders, emphasized the need for better coordination within the Mumbai Congress to secure victory in the upcoming assembly and BMC elections. The leaders stressed that winning in Mumbai is crucial for forming an MVA government in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) core committee held a meeting at Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s residence. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the party analyzed the Lok Sabha election results and identified mistakes made during the elections. The BJP’s seat count in Maharashtra dropped to nine from 23 in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, with a vote share of 26.18 percent.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for this year to elect 288 members of the state’s legislative assembly.
