Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge Pay Tribute to Bhagat Singh on His 117th Birth Anniversary
New Delhi, India – Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 117th birth anniversary. He praised Bhagat Singh’s courage, sacrifice, and martyrdom, calling them a source of inspiration for all.
Rahul Gandhi posted on X, ‘Humble tribute to the great revolutionary Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh ji on his birth anniversary. His courage, sacrifice and martyrdom will always be a source of inspiration for all of us.’
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also honored Bhagat Singh by sharing a quote from the revolutionary. Kharge wrote on X, ‘I am writing the outcome of which…Tomorrow will be the start…Every drop of my blood…will bring revolution.’ He added, ‘On the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh ji, a great freedom fighter who sacrificed everything for the independence of the country, we pay our respects to him. Bhagat Singh wrote continuously against the divisive forces in society and raised his voice against inequality. Till date, he is a source of inspiration for millions of youth because of this thinking.’
Bhagat Singh, born on September 27, 1907, was a charismatic Indian socialist revolutionary. He participated in the mistaken murder of a junior British police officer as retaliation for the death of an Indian nationalist. Born into a Punjabi Sikh family in the village of Banga in the Lyallpur district of Punjab, now in Pakistan, he later took part in a symbolic bombing of the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi and a hunger strike in jail. His execution at age 23 turned him into a martyr and folk hero in Northern India.
