Rahul Gandhi and Congress Celebrate Victory as UPSC Cancels Lateral Entry Jobs

New Delhi, India – The Union Government has decided to cancel the advertisement by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) that called for lateral entry jobs in mid-level posts in the Central Government. This decision has been celebrated by the Congress party, which had opposed the scheme.

Rahul Gandhi’s Statement

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed his satisfaction on social media, stating, “We will protect the Constitution and the reservation system at all costs. We will foil conspiracies like BJP’s ‘lateral entry’ at any cost. I am saying it again – by breaking the 50% reservation limit, we will ensure social justice based on the caste census. Jai Hind.”

Other Reactions

Senior Congress MP Manickam Tagore also commented, “2024 has given us two outcomes: a weak Prime Minister and a strong People’s Leader of the Opposition. In the end, it’s a victory for our Constitution. Jai Hind Jai Constitution.”

Government’s Response

Department of Personnel and Training Minister Jitendra Singh wrote to the Chairman of the UPSC to cancel the advertisement for lateral entry posts. The letter emphasized that the Prime Minister believes the process of lateral entry must align with the principles of equity and social justice, particularly concerning reservations.

The letter stated, “It is important that the constitutional mandate towards social justice is upheld so that deserving candidates from marginalized communities get their rightful representation in the government services.”

Opposition Criticism

Several opposition leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav, MK Stalin, and Sitaram Yechury, had opposed the government’s move. Bihar’s former Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the scheme, claiming it aimed to end reservations on the pretext of lateral entry.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified that these positions are temporary and do not impact the reservation system for regular openings, calling the opposition’s criticism “false and baseless.”
