Rahul Dravid Bids Farewell as India’s Head Coach After T20 World Cup Win
Bridgetown [Barbados], July 2: Legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid delivered his final speech as India’s head coach after their T20 World Cup victory. He thanked the team for their hard work and sacrifices.
Dravid’s Emotional Speech
In a heartfelt speech, Dravid said, “I am really short of words, but all I just want to say is thank you to everyone for making me a part of what is an incredible memory.” He praised the team’s resilience and hard work, expressing pride in their achievements.
New Head Coach Candidates
Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman are potential candidates for the next head coach. The new head coach will take over during the Sri Lanka tour later in July, while VVS Laxman will lead a new team to Zimbabwe for a T20I series starting from July 6.
Gratitude to Rohit Sharma and BCCI
Dravid thanked skipper Rohit Sharma for convincing him to continue after a tough loss to Australia in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. He also expressed gratitude to the BCCI for their support.
India’s Victory in the Final
In the final match, India won the toss and opted to bat first. Key performances by Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube helped India set a target of 176/7. Despite a strong chase by South Africa, India’s bowlers, including Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, secured the win, keeping SA to 169/8. Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’.
With this victory, India ended their ICC trophy drought since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
