Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to Visit Landslide-Hit Wayanad
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are scheduled to visit Wayanad, Kerala, on August 1. They will meet families affected by a recent landslide in the hilly areas of Meppadi and visit relief camps set up at schools and medical institutes.
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya Questions Delay
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya raised questions about the delay in their visit, noting that Union Minister George Kurian has been on the ground for the past two to three days. Surya pointed out that Kurian’s plane could land, but the planes carrying Rahul and Priyanka could not.
Surya stated, “George Kurian is overseeing the rescue operation in Wayanad under the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This shows their commitment to the people who elected them.”
Rahul Gandhi Urges Government Support
Rahul Gandhi urged the government to provide maximum assistance to Wayanad during this difficult time. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he emphasized the region’s ecological fragility and the need for technological solutions to prevent future mishaps.
“It is a huge tragedy in Wayanad, and the Military is doing a good job there. I request the government to aid the people of Wayanad during this difficult time,” Gandhi said.
Ongoing Rescue Operations
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the landslide-affected Chooralmala area of Wayanad. Over 1200 personnel from the Indian Army, DSC centre, Territorial Army, NDRF, Indian Navy, and IAF are deployed in the region.
