On October 16, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Srinagar to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. The event took place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

Support from Political Leaders

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his support for the alliance, emphasizing unity. He shared images with Omar Abdullah on social media before the ceremony. Other prominent leaders, including Supriya Sule, Prakash Karat, and Kanimozhi, also attended the event.

Omar Abdullah’s Vision

Omar Abdullah, who has previously served as Chief Minister and Union Minister, expressed his commitment to addressing the needs of the people. He hopes to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and work closely with the Indian government.

Historical Context

This marks the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and its reorganization into Union Territories. The region had been under Presidential rule since 2018.

Oath Ceremony Details

The oath was administered by J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Omar Abdullah was unanimously elected as the Leader of the Legislature Party, as confirmed by a letter from LG Sinha.
