Qaiser Sultan Ganaie Claims Omar Abdullah is Losing Ganderbal Elections

Qaiser Sultan Ganaie, a leader from the Democratic Progressive Azad Party and candidate from Ganderbal, stated on Wednesday that his opponent, Omar Abdullah, is losing the elections. Ganaie believes that people prefer a local leader who understands and addresses local issues.

Ganaie pointed to Abdullah’s defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla as evidence that Abdullah has lost touch with the people. He mentioned that Abdullah chose to contest from Budgam, a ‘safe seat,’ to avoid embarrassment.

Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), is contesting from both Ganderbal and Budgam assembly seats. He expressed hope for a good voter turnout, noting that the first phase went well.

The second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections recorded a voter turnout of 24.10% by 11 am, with Ganderbal seeing a turnout of 27.20%. Voting began at 7 am on Wednesday, with over 25 lakh eligible voters across 26 constituencies in six districts. The final phase of the elections will be held on October 1, and the votes will be counted on October 8.
