In an impressive display of skill, India’s top badminton player, PV Sindhu, has advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the women’s singles event at the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2024. Sindhu defeated Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan with scores of 21-12, 21-18 in a match that lasted just 38 minutes.

During the first game, Ongbamrungphan initially led 5-1, but Sindhu made a strong comeback, taking an 11-10 lead at the break and eventually winning the game. In the second game, despite Ongbamrungphan’s efforts, Sindhu secured victory by winning 11 of the last 12 points.

This victory marks Sindhu’s 19th win over Busanan in 20 encounters. In the upcoming Round of 16, Sindhu will face Canada’s Michelle Li, who recently defeated Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira.

In contrast, India’s Lakshya Sen was unable to secure a win in the men’s singles event, losing to Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao with scores of 22-20, 17-21, 16-21.

Previously, Sindhu competed in the BWF World Tour at the Denmark Open, where she reached the quarter-finals. She is currently ranked 19th in the women’s singles badminton rankings and continues to seek her first BWF World Tour title since her win at the Singapore Open in July 2022.
