Putin Warns West About Nuclear Response Amid Ukraine Conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stern warning to the West, indicating that Russia might resort to using nuclear weapons if it is attacked by conventional missiles from Ukraine. This statement was made during a meeting of Russia’s Security Council on Wednesday.

Key Points from Putin’s Statement

Putin stated that Moscow would consider any attack supported by a nuclear power as a joint attack on Russia. He said, “It is proposed that aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state, be considered as their joint attack on the Russian Federation.”

He further added, “The conditions for Russia’s transition to use of nuclear weapons are also clearly fixed.”

Changes in Russia’s Nuclear Doctrine

According to Putin, these adjustments in Russia’s official nuclear doctrine are necessary due to the rapidly changing global landscape, which presents new risks and threats to Russia. He emphasized that Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in addition to conventional weapons if it or its ally Belarus is targeted.
